Biographie
Stefania Bariatti is Professor of Public International Law and Private International Law at the School of Law of the University of Milan and member of the Governing Council of Unidroit, She was a member of the Italian delegation to the Hague Conference on Private International Law at several sessions and she chaired the Diplomatic Conference of the Hague Conference on Private International Law on the Law applicable to Certain Rights on Securities held through an Intermediary in 2002. She was the President of the European Group of Private International Law/Groupe européen de Droit international privé (GEDIP) from 2021 to 2024 and held a Jean Monnet Chair on EU Private international law from 2004 to 2009. Stefania Bariatti has represented Italy at the Civil Law Committee of the Council of the EU and has assisted the European Parliament and the European Commission in drafting several legislative acts in the field of judicial cooperation in civil matters. She is a member of the experts’ group that assists the European Commission on restructuring and insolvency law (since 2011).
During her academic carrier at the Universities of Milan, Milan-Bicocca and Sassari she taught and wrote extensively in the field of Private International Law, International Law and EU Law, including International Insolvency Law, EU Law, EU Private international Law, and EU Competition Law. She gave a special course at The Hague Academy of International Law in 2008 on International Insolvency Law and was visiting professor at the Universities of Toulouse, Paris-Panthéon-Sorbonne, and LUISS-Guido Carli.
She is a practicing lawyer, a member of the board of directors of listed companies in Italy and in the Netherlands, and she is co-director of the Rivista di diritto internazionale privato e processuale and member of the editorial board and the scientific board of several Italian and international legal journals, as well as member of a number if international scientific associations.
