Biography
Ambassador Mario Oyarzábal is the principal Legal Adviser to the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs since April 2025, having served in the same position between 2016 and 2020. He is also member of the International Law Commission (2023-2027), member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, as well as arbitrator and conciliator nominated under Art. 2 of Annexes V and VII of UNCLOS.
A career diplomat, he was Ambassador to the Netherlands (2020-2025), and Deputy Permanent Representative before the United Nations Security Council (2013-2014).
He has appeared as agent and counsel before the ICJ and ITLOS.
He gave a special course at The Hague Academy of International Law in 2020 and has been invited to deliver the general course in 2029.
He holds a JD from the University of La Plata and an LLM from Harvard.
