Biography

Professor and SARChI Chair of International Constitutional Law, University of Pretoria
Hold BLC LLB (Pretoria) LLM (Connecticut) PhD (Erasmus) is a Professor of international law the holder of the NRF SARChl Chair in International Constitutional Law at the University of Pretoria. He is a member of the UN International Law Commission and its Special Rapporteur on Peremptory Norms of General International Law (Jus Cogens). He is also a member of the Institut de Droit International. He is formerly Special Adviser to the South African Foreign Minister. He had also been legal adviser to the South African Foreign Ministry and the legal counsel to the South African Mission to the United Nations in New York. Dire has appeared as counsel before the International Criminal Court.
